I've been thinking a lot about the concept of flow lately...
Working for someone else, that is
I suppose it wasn't fair of me to grab my camera while Mr. Lopez was outside.
Yes, this is most likely the post in which I will truly date myself, and you will all find out that I'm actually not 27 years old.
The French newsweekly "Journal du Dimanche" has reported on a newly-identified psychological disorder called "Paris Syndrome." About a dozen Japanese visitors to Paris require psychiatric treatment each year, when the reality of Parisian culture does not meet their expectations.
Thank goodness the heat wave here in the Bay Area appears to be over. I awoke to overcast skies this morning, typical of a true summer around here. I will never again disparage them. At least this month.
During our second trip to France in late 2004, we spent several days in Beaune, a quaint little city in the heart of Burgundy.
Just looking at my stats for the day, and this has certainly been the most globally-diverse group of visitors I've ever had.
I do some of my best thinking in the bathtub. Showers can be productive as well, but there's nothing like relaxing in a warm bath to bring some brilliant idea to the front of my mind.
I'm not sure what to make of the fact that I've had three (3) different people ask me about doing a Flash-based site (or splash page) THIS WEEK. I do know one thing...I don't think they've actually read my site, since my I make my feelings for Flash abundantly clear in several places.
Ever read a post on someone else's blog that gives you that little sense of "I'm not alone in the world"? I had feeling that this morning when I read "UI10 - It's All About the Tote" on Matthew Oliphant's UsabilityWorks blog.
Seth Godin referenced my review of "The Big Moo" in his blog today, and used it to illustrate a point.
Or, "Confessions of a One-time Library Geek"...Last week Lifehacker had a fantastic piece on the Deep (or Invisible) Web...
I came across this quote the other day, and I immediately fell in love with it. How perfect! There was no attribution, so I decided to follow-up and find out who gifted us with this witty (and so-true) observation. Boy, was I in for puzzle...
I could go on for days about why I think Flash is a really bad idea, but I'm just an in-the-trenches gal and don't make the big bucks writing and speaking about usability.
I've gotten to where I hate to write anything by hand. While I regularly scribble out notes and lists to myself, writing by hand for someone else's eyes spins me into a world of anxiety and ripped up note cards.
I must admit...I have a visceral reaction to the idea of marketing. Ok, make that "traditional marketing." As someone who works hard to build my business from my personal values and experiences, and especially as someone who hates to be manipulated and SOLD to, I just find the very idea of it unpleasant.
I guess now that I have that carrot that was dangling in front of me for so long, I've realized (once again) that I really hate carrots.
After all the work I did to develop the new site, I felt pretty strongly that IE6 (Windows) would not really give me any problems with my CSS. HA!
Working hard, thinking big, and being yourself. WYSIWYG...
Michael Pollack of Small Business Branding had a post this week that has really stuck with me...
I'm thinking about an email conversation I had this morning with someone who works for one of my clients.
Just being connected is no longer enough.
