Following up on yesterday's post about the potential client who didn't want me to have a credit on her site OR even mention her in my portfolio, here was her response to me:
We are not going forward with this project...My company would be paying you for your services to create a website, which in my mind should be developed according to the customer's wishes. I do not see any reason as to why I have to help you market your business, nor do I think it is even right for you to get involved in that kind of discussion with me when I am contacting you to provide a service. I have never come into contact with a website developer who took this approach.
Normally I would just shrug my shoulders and not think about it much after today, and certainly not go to the trouble of posting her response. However, this is actually cracking me up, because it is so ridiculous.
What led to this in the first place was her demand to see my contract before she made up her mind about working with me. I put a lot of time into developing an agreement specific to each project, so I don't relish the idea of sending them out on someone else's whim.
I got a number of emails from folks yesterday, mostly other service providers who gave me a resounding "you go girl!" I feel obligated to report how it went.
My reply?
I think that's for the best. If the tone of the conversation is at this point before we've ever agreed to work together, I don't think the situation will become more constructive for either one of us as time passes.
Yes, I know I've taken it down a peg or two by blogging about it, but I still think I took the high road here.
