This weekend AOL's research arm released a list of over 20 million searches by some 650,000 subscribers. Unfortunately for them, they seemed to miss the memo about about anonymizing such private data. And there is some scary stuff here too.

The scariest by far is from a Mr. 17556639. He ran searches on these topics:

You can get all kinds of details, as well as links to a mirror of AOL's report (the original is gone...I guess they missed the memo on web archives too) from www.techcrunch.com.

I will refrain from saying what I really think, since I am still consulting with another part of AOL's parent organization. But I feel strongly enough about this to help get the word out that this is going on, because outrageous doesn't even begin to cover it.
