In spite of what you may have heard, I did not melt away

July 27, 2006

Thank goodness the heat wave here in the Bay Area appears to be over. I awoke to overcast skies this morning, typical of a true summer around here. I will never again disparage them. At least this month.

The heat was hideous enough, but we also had very unusual humidity thrown in. I'm from Texas, so I know a thing or two about the combined joy of heat and humidity together...but damn. This really sucked. Combine that with a broken air conditioner and our bedroom on the third floor of our house, and it was good times all around.

I know what you're thinking:But Shari, don't you just sit in your dressing gown and feathered slippers all day, eating bonbons and drinking champagne, while small children fan you with large palm fronds?

My first question about this scenario would be Who let the children into my house?

But seriously...I've been hard at work. Not only with lots of upcoming sites for my wonderful coaches and other like-minded folks, but I've been heads down on several TypePad blogs for a media behemoth. It rhymes with lime. And mime. And crime. I can't tell you what publication these blogs are for, but it starts with In and ends with Style.

It has been quite the opportunity, and I really like the folks there, but it has also served to remind me why I am thankful I work for myself. I've been in the web production trenches at a massive company before, and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. But this is what I was meant to be doing...making it happen for myself.

I don't work any less than I did in those days; in fact, I'm sure I work more. But when I'm in my office answering email at 11pm, I'm at home, in my pajamas, and it's all about my business. What could be better than that?
