A pun does not commonly justify a blow in return...

A pun does not commonly justify a blow in return. But if a blow were given for such cause, and death ensued, the jury would be judges both of the facts and of the pun, and might, if the latter were of an aggravated character, return a verdict of justifiable homicide.

- Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

I frequently show this quote to Sam, because in his warped Iowa mind, the pun is the highest form of humor.

I was reminded of it today when I received an email from my beloved friend Jeff (Kev), announcing that he was a contributor to Alibris' new blog, Cuppa Joad. And that he was responsible for the title.

When I've stopped groaning in pain from that, I may have to drive up to Oakland and smack him upside the head. It's justifiable, after all.

Maybe someday I WILL grow to appreciate your puns, Sam. Because there's always a chance I'll suffer some sort of diminished intellectual capacity, and that's the one thing I'll need to find them funny.

The fates understand my comic genius, even if you do not. You've motivated me to share ever more puns, in hopes that you come to appreciate them.
