Update: ok...maybe not this year. Argh. Can't we all just get along?
Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I am a total Francophile. I simply adore France, especially Paris.
Sam and I have talked about living in Europe numerous times...my business is completely portable, so I'm not the impediment here. We've also discussed an apartment or lease-back investment, and were prepared to investigate when we were there a year ago, but with the hideous exchange rate it just was not an option right now.
Back to the task at hand. I simply must attend Les Blogs 2.0 in Paris, December 5-6. Not just to go back to Paris, but to learn more about the blogging culture in Europe since I hope to be one of those European bloggers someday very soon.
Business is going nicely these days, but I can't justify the expense right now. I might be able to swing it if I can find a super-cheap last minute airfare...but only if. And only if the Paris-trip fairy comes to visit. And perhaps that is where you come in.
I am now shamelessly accepting donations for the "Send a Blogger to Paris" fund. Surely you'd love to see this surly girl become delirously happy in the City of Lights. (And if I don't make it to Paris, any donations I receive will be donated in turn to Room to Read...and I will match the total.)
It will be purely business. I swear.
Update: I still really want to go. I'm trying to figure out where in the actual city this is taking place...I know it is mostly outside of Paris proper. Les Blogs 2.0 is being held the 17th. I was already planning NOT to take the RER from DeGaulle, but instead would spring for the AirFrance bus that we found so handy last year. I know my way around pretty well, but if I don't know where the strife actually is, it's hard to say if I'm willing to take the risk.

Hi. I live in Paris and will be attending the Les Blogs 2.0 conference. Let me assure you that none of the recent troubles have been anywhere near the part of town where the conference is taking place.
In the 17th, you're more likely to have to worry about stepping on someone's poodle than about getting caught up in a riot.
What's more, things have very much calmed down even in the greater Paris region over the last few nights, so if you manage to gather enough cash together with your fund (and good luck to you with that), you can safely come here.
