Not quite Archimedes

October 29, 2005

I do some of my best thinking in the bathtub. Showers can be productive as well, but there's nothing like relaxing in a warm bath to bring some brilliant idea to the front of my mind.

I've always wondered why this was the case. I think it's the relaxation, and the fact that I can't really do anything else at the same time (other than the job at hand...getting clean).

Sometimes I think I should try to invent some sort of device or product that would allow me to record my ideas in the tub...because it's like trying to remember a license plate or phone number without writing it down once I'm out. But then that might create pressure to think of something brilliant, creative, or witty...and I'd lose the relaxation element. And not want to bathe. And I knew too many people in college who were like that. Eeew.

Update: Someone in my home (and it's neither the dog nor the cat) has said that even mentioning Archimedes brands me as a nerd. No, I think an MSEE and a subscription to Nuts and Volts are far greater nerd markers. I'm just an information junkie.

You've just created the perfect excuse. I'm not a filthy slob, I simply get overwhelmed by the
torrent of my own creativity whenever I try to bathe!
