The Juicy Fruit "Blog": Make It Stop!

September 14, 2005

I had the great misfortune of looking at the ridiculous Juicy Fruit "blog" today. It doesn't even qualify as strangely compelling...it's just plain dumb. In every possible way.

Thanks Andy and Matt. I think.

After waiting for a slow-loading Flash intro (grrr), it goes to another Flash page (the...um...blog) that chronicles the wacky misadventures of a middle-aged woman and a teen boy who both grab the last pack of Juicy Fruit. And won't let go. For weeks on end.

Kind of like prisoners who are shackled together and make an escape. Except there is an element of choice here, I guess. THEY MUST HAVE THIS GUM.

And then I started to apply some logic to the scenario...why don't they split the pack of gum? Why don't they go to another store and get another pack? And what teen boy talks or writes like that?

And then I felt ashamed for even getting to that point in the thought process.

I can't even begin to imagine what was going on in the development meetings for this. The kids...it's all about the blogs these days!

A fake blog, not even using a blogging application but Flash, blinding colors, a miniscule block for the "text," and the lamest "game" I've ever seen.

I need to take two Advil and lie down for a while after this.

Well, it was less than five minutes. But the damage to my psyche (and my retinas) may last a lifetime.

Wow, you spent a lot more time on the site than I did. My head was hurting so bad, I didn't even get to the game. I feel your pain.
