Backup, backup, backup

Screw diamonds...backups are a girl's best friend.

I've faithfully backed up my hard drive every night for several years now, and it has served me well on more than one occasion. And if you don't do that, start now. Don't argue...just do it.

But I've never really followed through when it came to backing up my server content. I've always kept copies of all my sites on one of my hard drives, and I'm sure my hosting provider had some sort of backup scheme...but when you are the hosting provider, it's a whole other game.

When I upgraded to MT 3.2 the other day, I thought all I really needed to do was back up the MySQL database. But something in my head told me to back my sites on my hosting server.

And I am so glad I listened to myself, because I discovered tonight that things did not go as smoothly as I thought with the upgrade. And only copies of my templates would solve that problem. Now that I'm running my sites using MT, it's been harder to keep up-to-date copies of my many templates on my local system.

When I discovered large portions of two all three of my MT-powered business sites missing, I only had to panic for a moment. Because I made a backup before I upgraded. HAH!

So now everything is good, and I will sleep well tonight (or as well as you can with a snoring basset hound in your bed)...because I backed up my sites before I upgraded.
