Think Small!

June 6, 2005

Seth Godin is at it again...Small is the new big:

Small means the founder makes a far greater percentage of the customer interactions. Small means the founder is close to the decisions that matter and can make them, quickly.

Small is the new big because small gives you the flexibility to change the business model when your competition changes theirs.

Small means you can tell the truth on your blog.

Small means that you can answer email from your customers.

Small is the new big only when the person running the small thinks big.

Don't wait. Get small. Think big.

Damn. He nailed it...again. This is what I love so much about being a solopreneur. The ability to make the decisions. The power to change course in a no time flat.

Yes, I've had the cubicle in a couple of Fortune 500 companies. And I've had the identical cubicle in businesses of 50-100 people, and almost the same one at a major university. And so on.

In spite of whatever perks came with working for an entity of "x" size, none of it ever made up for the feeling of powerlessness that I felt...and especially the inability to really be myself, and to tell the truth.

Now I can. And I love working with like-minded solopreneurs and small business owners who feel the same way. Working hard, thinking big, and being yourself. WYSIWYG. It's a beautiful thing.
