I'm a big fan of Springwise. If you aren't familiar with it, it's a monthly newlsetter about the latest business trends and ideas.
Instant inspiration from the world's best new business ideas
Who it is for: Entrepreneurs, management consultants, marketing managers, journalists, business development directors, researchers, analysts, VCs... Basically, anyone who wants to know which new and innovative ideas are out there and not to be missed, from the US to the UK, and from Sweden to South Korea.
The April issue outlines a new business trend I relish in my own life... professional kitchens where you go in and prepare a whole load of dinners at once. All of the prep, and even more importantly, all of the cleanup are done for you. You simply spend an hour or two assembling the dishes, and then you take them home, freezer-ready, to enjoy over the next month. We got six dishes, four of them divided into two different batches (for a total of 10), for $115. Not bad, I must say.
This might very well have saved my relationship. Eating in restaurants five or six nights a week was not only financially draining, but the effort that it took to get there and the nightly "where do you want to eat" discussion/argument was getting very, very old.
BTW, hats off to Gourmade Cookery in Pleasanton, CA, for many nights of home-cooked dinners and newly restored harmony in my household!
Oooh...there is also an article about smart-card wine bars, of which my very favorite new place in San Francisco, VinoVenue, is one. How cool is that?
Springwise's "brainy sister" publication,Trendwatching, is also a worthwhile read. Full of consumer insights, and how they shape marketing trends.
